Get ready to explore and discover - Summer Club is back, celebrating its 81st anniversary year with immersive, in-person programs unlike anything else in the city. Engaging and exciting, our camp programs feature classroom and in-gallery learning, bringing kids face to face with immortal stories from our vast art, culture, and nature collections. New groups and awesome activities are sure to inspire seasoned and novice campers alike with more than just a history lesson.

Summer Club groups welcome kids ages 5-16 with themed programs to choose from. From ancient Egypt to prehistoric dinosaurs, there's something for everyone. Our dynamic counsellors and enthusiastic instructors guide kids through the wonders of our collections, galleries, and research.

T.rex: The Ultimate Predator comes to ROM this summer. This exciting exhibition takes a fresh look at the king of the tyrant lizards, highlighting the latest scientific research and important discoveries about tyrannosaurs — research that challenges preconceived notions about dinosaurs. Come along as we unearth the fascinating discoveries in the Museum's vast collections of art, culture, and nature. We'll be joined by new groups Dino Detectives, Down to Earth, and Generation Why that will explore our galleries in exciting and immersive ways. We look forward to kicking off Summer Club’s 81st anniversary with campers old and new. Spend your summer at ROM for an unforgettable experience!

Drop Off

Drop off the registration form at the ROM’s Admissions Desk.  Note: One form per child. 

Important: Registrations paid by cheque should be made payable to the Royal Ontario Museum. Post-dated cheques will not be accepted.  Please ensure you have calculated the correct payment on your cheque otherwise your registration will not be processed and it will be returned to you by mail.


Registration

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to the space capacity. Full payment is required at the time of registration.  During the Members' exclusive sign-up period and open general public registration period, spots will be offered on a first-come, first-basis. 

To pair your child with a friend, please indicate the other child’s name on the registration form. 

Note: To enroll in an age group, the child must be the appropriate age by the end of the calendar year. For example, if your child turns 5 by December 31, 2023, they can join a 5-year old group this summer as a 4-year old.

Registrations will not be processed if they are incomplete.

Transfers

A fee of $30 will automatically be charged to children transferring from one course to another, in addition to any adjustments if transferring between differently priced sessions  Transfers will be permitted up to 5 business days before the course start date, pending availability.


Cancellations & Refunds

Cancellations must be received in writing no less than two weeks prior to the course date for a refund of 80%. Please email your cancellation notice to summerclub@rom.on.ca

Any requests for cancellations received after the two-week period will be processed only if accompanied by a medical certificate and received prior to the end of the first week of the camp period.

In the case of insufficient registrations for any course, we reserve the right to cancel the program, and a full refund will be forthcoming with the option to transfer to another available course.

No refunds will be issued for days when a camper is absent, and missed days cannot be made up.

Child size shirts $20; Adult size shirts $20 (tax included).  We can’t exchange sizes so please check your child’s size before ordering.


ROM reserves the right to make changes to programs and policies at any time.
All programs are HST exempt under Registration # R105248256.

Class Size & Instructors

Classes are limited to 20 children. Staff ratios: 6:1 for 5 year olds, 8:1 for 6 to 7 year olds and 10:1 for children 8 and older.

Instructors hold a degree from a post-secondary institution and have professional experience, including teaching experience. Assistants are senior high school or university students who have extensive experience in educational programs. Each group also has two or more volunteers to provide additional support.

Getting Here

Entrance: Use the President's Choice School Entrance at the south side of the museum. Go down the small set of stairs between the Museum and the Planetarium and through the first set of glass doors on the right. We will greet you inside the doors.

Drop-Off and Pick Up: Parking is not available at the Museum. You may drop off and pick up your children briefly at the school bus loading zone on Queen's Park on the east side of ROM. Parking in this area and/or blocking the bus stop are considered parking violations and may be ticketed. The Museum assumes no responsibility for such violations nor can we assist you with parking tickets.

The TTC bus and subway routes also stop at our door. Call  416.393.INFO for details.

Supervised Morning Drop-Off: Summer Club Staff are available from 8:30 am to 9 am at the school bus drop-off zone and at the gates in the Museum subway stop to escort campers to their morning groups. Staff can be identified by staff shirts and badges.

Early Bird Films: Children arriving between 8:15 am and 9 am will enjoy free early bird films until official programming begins.

Supervised Lunch: Participants will picnic in Philosopher's Walk (weather permitting) behind the Museum from 12 pm to 1 pm. Children should bring their own bag lunches, drinks and snacks (NO NUTS PLEASE).

Extended Care: Extended care, consisting of relaxed, supervised activities, will be available for a limited number of children from 4 pm to 6 pm. It is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.


Your Child's Safety and Pick Up

Children MUST be picked up promptly after programs or extended care ends. Late fees of $1 per minute apply.

We do not permit children to leave unattended. Children ages 11 to 16 years of age can leave on their own if they have a signed note from home summarizing permission for relevant dates.

Please provide a note if you know in advance if your child is going to be absent. Please telephone 416.586.8043 if your child is ill and will not be attending.

Children are released only to people whose photo ID matches the name(s) submitted as authorized pick-up people. Names can be added to this list throughout the session.


Daily Schedule

Check out our orientation video and learn more about how Summer Club works!

8:15am - 9:00am: Drop off and sign in at our lockers. 

9:00am - 10:15am: First half of the morning session. Lesson time with the instructor as well as gallery exploration.

10:15am - 10:45am: Break time in the ROMKids Lunch Room or, weather permitting, outside in Philosopher's Walk.

10:45am - 12:00pm: Second half of morning session. Work on art projects or science experiments in our learning labs.

12:00pm - 1:00pm: Time to fuel up for the afternoon. We'll have a supervised lunch in our classrooms and relax to a few short films.

1:00pm - 2:15pm: First half of the afternoon session. We'll continue to explore the galleries with our instructor and work through our art.

2:15pm - 2:45pm: Afternoon Break

2:45pm - 4:00pm: Second half of afternoon session. Time to wrap up all our work and prepare to go home.

4:00pm: Sign out at the lockers.

4:00pm - 6:00pm: Extended Care. 


Further Information

  • Programs are 2-weeks long (one week during session 5) and are offered daily Monday to Friday. 2-week sessions cannot be reduced to a single-week registration. 
  • Programs are for children ages 5 - 16.

Age 5 – MORNING OPTIONS


All Grown Up (Age 5)

How does a tadpole become a frog? How does a sapling become a tree? How did kids grow up in ancient times? Get ready for a fun-filled session as we explore biodiversity’s babies and antiquity’s adolescents. Traverse Egypt and test out some ancient games, journey to China and find out what kids learned in school, and brave the bat cave to investigate the lifecycle of our upside-down friends. Join us this summer as we grow up with the Museum!


Call of the Wild (Age 5)

What’s that sound? It's the call of the wild! From the fierce lions of the Serengeti to the blue whales of eastern Canada, there are countless curious creatures to meet. Through art, stories, and interactive play, you will learn about the vast diversity of creatures the Museum has to offer.


Mini-Myths (Age 5)

Prepare for an adventure of mythical proportions as we set sail on a journey into the world of fictional follies. Dangerous dragons, herculean heroes, and gargantuan gods are what await in this interactive story experience. Travel through Greece, Egypt, China and more as we explore the great myths of the ancient world. Meet the monsters behind the myths and enter into the most fantastic fables history has to offer.


Worldly Wonders (Age 5)

Embark on an expedition that takes you across the world’s many wonders! From the Great Wall of China to the Acropolis of Athens to the soaring CN Tower, get ready to delve into the compelling history of world-famous cultural landmarks. Then, find out about the impressive forces of nature that have created earth’s most fascinating phenomena. Swim with the fish in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and light up the sky with the Aurora Borealis to learn the science behind Mother Nature’s miracles. Join us as we trek through the Museum’s many galleries and be inspired by these magnificent marvels for your very own landmark creation!


Dino Detectives (Age 5)

Grab your magnifying glass and put on your detective cap as we investigate the wondrous world of prehistoric wildlife. Stomp like a stegosaurus and roar like a raptor as we meet the Museum’s most fascinating specimens. Follow the trail of dinosaur footprints all the way to our Biodiversity gallery to uncover the secrets of evolution. Meet two of history’s most famous archaeologist’s and learn the importance of working together. Dive into the world of tyrannosaurs with a chance to visit ROM’s special exhibit, T.rex: The Ultimate Predator. Then, jet to China and discover the dazzling connection between dinosaurs and dragons. We are searching high and low this summer for all things dinosaur!

Age 5 – AFTERNOON OPTIONS


Science Safari (Age 5)

Go wild as you investigate the puzzling properties of water, the gravity-defying fancies of flight, or the many special ways animals sense their surroundings. Try experiments, create your own gallery-inspired art, and go on a Science Safari of the Museum!


Sea to Sky (Age 5)

Swim with the fish, soar through the sky and traverse across the wonderful earthen plains as we adventure around the world. Meet the Museum’s critters and creatures, face off against our mighty tiger, and obsess over our glittering gems. Join us as we learn about everything from the sea to the sky!


Art Blooms (Age 5)

Let exploration in the outdoors awaken your artistic senses. Prowl ROM’s Natural History galleries and head out to Philosopher’s Walk to let the sights, sounds, and textures of the environment inspire some astonishing artistic creations. Find your creativity and lead your own artistic adventure. Capture the beauty of nature, and let your imagination run wild as our art goes into full bloom.


Earthworms (Age 5)

Welcome little worms! Did you know earthworms are nature’s doctors? They help the planet stay healthy and so can you! Learn all about why our planet and animal friends need our help and find out all of the awesome ways you can keep our earth happy. Then, march with the penguins through icy Antarctica and slither with the snakes through the scorching Sahara! Discover earth’s extraordinary climates and beautiful biodiversity with trips to our animal gallery. Travel back in time and visit ROM’s special T.rex: The Ultimate Predator exhibition and the brand new Dawn of Life gallery to learn all about the animals of the past. Join us as we wiggle and worm our way around the world!


Globe Trotters (Age 5)

Calling all world travelers! Pack your bags, grab your passport, and prepare yourself for a trip around the globe. Grab your sunblock as we trek through the deserts of Egypt, don your parka as we journey through the arctic, and put on your life jacket as we swim through the Pacific as world explorers. Spend every day discovering the wonders of each corner of the world. Buckle up for an adventure of global proportions!

Museum Marvels (Age 6-7)

Tour our world-famous Museum and discover the most amazing artifacts and spectacular specimens the ROM has to offer. Explore ancient Egypt and learn the history of Hatshepsut, take cover under our Chinese temple and find out how the zodiac was created, and visit our biodiversity gallery to say a quick hello to our friendly fish. Aspire to become a future ROM curator as we investigate the marvels this museum holds!


T.rex Tales (Age 6-7)

Calling all dinosaur hunters! Unearth stories of incredible dinosaur finds, handle real fossils, learn casting techniques, and create your own prehistoric environment. Find out how the Oviraptor got its name, or how the Museum’s very own palaeontologists go digging for fossils. Then, marvel at fearsome Tyrannosaur beasts with special access to the Museum's blockbuster exhibit, T. rex: The Ultimate Predator. Gain a scientific perspective on dinosaur diversity as you sharpen your expertise on the mighty monsters of the Mesozoic.


Dig This (Age 6-7)

Dig into the natural world and ancient history and discover what buried treasures lay below us! From the prehistoric fossils that line our Museum, and the natural resources that fuel our homes, to the ancient cities that mystify us, our Earth is filled with amazing wonders just waiting to be uncovered. Explore, examine, and experiment your way to a better understanding of where our world came from, where it’s going, and how we can preserve it.


Up and Atom (Age 6-7)

All young scientists are welcome as we embark on a journey to understand how life began! We will work our way from the tiny building blocks that make us who we are, to the amazing organisms that inhabit our earth. Conduct hair-raising experiments and eye-popping demonstrations as we dig deep into the world of science


Mix it Up! (Age 6-7)

Grab your canvas, put on your smock, and prepare your paintbrushes! Embark on an artistic journey through the Museum’s many astonishing galleries. Find your muse as you travel to Korea, Egypt, Greece, and more! Learn all about the world of colours, patterns, and shapes. Be inspired by the stories and science around the world for your own fantastical creation!


Pharaohs and Friends (Age 6-7)

From pharaohs to emperors, to queens, and beyond! Put on your crown and get ready to learn all about the different types of royalty from around the world. Join us on a royal escapade around the Museum as we trek to Greece’s democratic cities, travel to Iran’s ancient empires, and traverse the sands of Egypt to find out about the histories and stories of past rulers and their people!


Earthlings (Age 6-7)

Learn about the wonderful and wild marvels of planet Earth! Swim with our aquarium fish, spelunk in our famous Bat Cave, and rocket to the Moon. Visit Bull the southern white rhinoceros and learn why the species is endangered. Then, become a climate protector and find out what we can do to preserve our planet and protect our wildlife!

Rumour Has it (Age 8-10)

Join us in debunking history’s hoaxes on this quest to fact-check history! Discover the true story behind the Patagonian Giants, find out about the radio broadcast that simulated an alien invasion, and learn about the Etruscan Terracotta warriors and how even museums can be fooled by fake artifacts. Study how rumours, false reporting, and hoaxes can shake the world as we know it and what you can do to make sure that truth prevails!


Hodgepodge (Age 8-10)

There are so many different things in the Museum– so let’s explore them all! Art, culture, nature; why choose just one? We’ll explore the ROM from all angles as we combine all the greatest things the Museum has to offer. From making great masterpieces of art to dabbling in backyard science experiments, we’ll do it all. Make your way through every gallery as we become masters of all things museum. Get ready for a little bit of this and a little bit of that as we create a hodgepodge of adventures!


Frozen in Time (Age 8-10)

Dig and dive your way through this exploratory expedition to learn what it’s like to discover historical objects frozen in time! Exhume dinosaur fossils, excavate ancient Islamic sites, and unearth secrets of the past. Learn about the world of artifacts and ecofacts and what they can tell us about the past lives of animals and humans on this worldwide excursion!


Palaeoquest (Age 8-10)

From the origins of life, to the first flight of dinosaurs, to the rise of humans, palaeontology covers a vast amount of awe-inspiring science and history. Explore our world-class collection of fossils spanning hundreds of millions of years, learn about the Museum’s cutting-edge research on prehistoric life and discover how palaeontologists preserve, piece together, and study their finds. How did life begin? Are dinosaurs truly extinct? Can Ice Age beasts be brought back to life? Find out in PalaeoQuest!


New Frontiers (Age 8-10)

Be on the cutting edge of science and technology as we explore new frontiers. Learn how scientists are planning to travel to Mars, and gain insider knowledge on ROM’s participation in an exploratory mission to the asteroid Bennu. Discover the research being conducted at the bottom of the ocean, and how scientists are combating climate change by creating alternative energy solutions. Find out how researchers everywhere are pushing the envelope of science and finding new frontiers.


Down to Earth (Age 8-10)

Did you know that we should be living through an ice age? Or that forests are some of the most important guardians of our planet? Get ready for an exploration of all things earth! Take a trip to our Hands-On gallery and learn about the complexities of our ecosystems. Stroll through the Indigenous gallery and learn all about the Indigenous traditional knowledge that protects our planet. Then, visit the Biodiversity: Life in Crisis gallery to understand how rising sea levels, growing global temperatures, increasing natural disasters, and other climate irregularities are hurting our home. Dive into the field of climate science to discover the fascinating findings and impressive innovations that are leading us towards a greener future. Then, put on your curiosity cap and get ready to ask your questions to our team of incredible ROM experts. Touch the grass and reconnect with the beauty of our planet as you get down to earth!


History's Mysteries (Age 8-10)

Learn about some of history’s most mysterious events, stories, and legends as we travel back in time. Why was Hatshepsut erased from history? How was Stonehenge built? Are crystal skulls ancient Mayan and Incan artifacts, or just hoaxes from the 18th century? We’ll explore the possible explanations for these enigmas and more as we search through the past. Will these puzzles remain unanswered, or will we uncover the truth of these great mysteries? Only time will tell in this retelling of history’s most mystifying mysteries!


ROM RPG (Age 8-10)

Paladins, pixies, and pegasus galore! Create your character, carefully strategize, and choose your own ROM-venture on this journey through the Museum’s magical exhibits. Explore the Biodiversity gallery and meet the real-life animals that inspired the many monsters of mythology. Trek through the ROM’s cultural galleries and listen to the stories of heroes past for some tips and tricks in your own campaign. Will you best Medusa’s stoney gaze or will it be a hard rock life for your character? Can you spot the Jinn before they sneak up on you or will its trickster nature make you the fool? Grab your D20 and roll for initiative on this journey of epic proportions!

Age 11-14 FULL DAY OPTIONS


Cloak and Dagger (Age 11-14)

Shhhh! Become a spy-in-training and discover the world of espionage, subterfuge, and secret missions. Travel to times past and decipher calamitous moments in history before uncovering the secret world of spying and intelligence. We will trek to China and eavesdrop on Sun Tzu’s tricky tactics, sneak our way to Europe to uncover the hidden history of modern espionage, and join secret services across the world. Keep your ear to the ground as we learn about real-life gadgets, remarkable undercover agents, and extraordinary covert operations on this enigmatic adventure!


Force of Nature (Age 11-14)

Our world is on fire, but we can still save it! The climate crisis is posing a very serious threat to the world around us. Together we will trek through the Museum’s diverse galleries to discover the earth’s vast and interrelated ecosystems, meet our endangered animal friends, and learn about the science behind the climate crisis. Then, discover how we can reduce our carbon footprint through daily sustainable practices. The world needs innovative and mature leaders, and youth are stepping up! Become a force for nature and learn all about how we can use our voice and action to promote positive change in the world!


Dungeons & Dragons (Age 11-14)

Delve into a legendary world where YOU create the story. Tour the Museum and discover the real-life inspirations behind popular table-top role playing games as we study biodiversity, ancient cultures, artifacts, weapons, and more! Then, join a ROM-inspired campaign full of magical beasts, mystical arts, and unsolved mysteries. Create characters, strategize, and try to stay on the Dungeon Master’s good side on this exploration into imagination!


Generation Why?

Journey across the Museum as we explore how major historical events shaped generations of people to come. Discover just how loud the “silent generation” was as we learn about second wave feminism and the rise of the rock n’ roll. Figure out where the nickname “iGen” originates from and how technology is shaping our world. Then, travel through time and check out the fads and fashions of the trendiest eras. Great Unknown

Explore the vastness of the universe as we delve into the great unknown. Learn how mathematicians have attempted to estimate the probability of extraterrestrial life, and how they continue to ask the question “Where is everybody?” Find out how scientists may genetically engineer the perfect astronaut, and how they already genetically engineered the perfect apple. Discover how scientists are attempting to resurrect the woolly mammoth, and how emerging fields of renewable energy can help us in the fight against climate change. Be on the cutting edge of scientific discovery as we solve modern-day problems!


Deep Dive

Curious minds wanted on this exploration of the captivating and confounding. Be prepared each day to dive deep into a different theme revolving around the Museum’s vast collections. Analyze the skulls of australopithecines and hominids and learn the amazing effects of evolution. Engage in experiential archaeology and find out the fascinating ways ancient peoples moved large columns and obelisks. Visit the Museum’s blockbuster exhibit, T.rex: The Ultiamte Predator, and unearth the many tyrannosaurs of our prehistoric planet. Fly to Mars and meet the rovers that are working hard for our scientists here on earth. Get the unique chance to meet ROM experts in the field who are breaking ground on these intriguing topics.


Architreks

Use the ROM as a launching point as we study architecture old and new. Encounter some of the world’s most amazing feats of engineering. From legendary lost cities like Pompeii, to modern-day museums, architecture has shaped the world around us. Put on your walking shoes and join us as we trek around the city learning about the history of human-made structures and how they have evolved into the city around us.


Museum Mysteries

Get ready to unlock some of the Museum’s greatest mysteries as we learn the secrets behind Canada’s largest museum. Find out how one of the Museum’s most famous dinosaurs went missing for decades, and how the largest animal ever found made its way through the doors. Explore the ROM’s hidden collections and learn the stories behind some of the most mysterious artifacts and specimens. Become a museum insider as we discover the ins and outs of the Museum’s history.


Art Moves

Take advantage of this whole-day program to discover Toronto’s exciting cultural sites. Galleries in and beyond ROM will inspire you to expand your portfolio and develop artistic skills through studies in sketching, painting, collage, and sculpture. Get moving as you travel through the Museum and to some of the city’s hidden artistic treasures while developing your skills in the visual arts.


ROM Reporters

Take in ROM’s galleries and collections as you get the inside scoop as an official ROM Reporter! In an action-packed two weeks, we’ll craft new tales for ancient artifacts, create fun and informative vlogs, and interview specialists in topics ranging from art to science. Whatever story you want to tell about the Museum and the fantastic things inside it, we’ll find the best way to tell it.

All the ROM's a Stage

Places, everyone! Prepare yourself for a journey of the imagination and bring the ROM’s exhibits to life. Our special theatre school will draw on the Museum’s rich cultural and dramatic backdrop to enhance your acting abilities through training in voice, movement, expression and dialogue. All you learn will culminate in a final performance worthy of a Shakespearean stage.


Toronto Underfoot

Did you know that people have inhabited Toronto for several thousands of years? Join us as we delve into the history of our great city. From Fort York to the Toronto Islands, we’ll uncover the rich history underneath our own feet. We’ll travel to iconic Toronto landmarks, and find out how Hogtown got its name. Haunted walks, epic battles and amalgamations await as we traverse the 4-1-6. Prepare to take a historical journey and discover the hidden past of your own home.

Leadership

Join our leaders-in-training program and improve your confidence, communication skills and ability to work with a team. Real hands-on experience working with children, assistants, and instructors in our Summer Club programs will reinforce exercises in problem solving, motivation and conflict resolution. You’ll also get a chance to meet with museum professionals and learn about museum careers. Graduates of this program will be considered for volunteer assistant positions in next year’s Summer Club, and other ROMKids programs.
