POSITION SUMMARY:

The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) requires a Facility Maintenance Engineer to provide leadership and operational planning in the day-to-day to oversee the work of and provide direct supervision to the Facility mechanics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Facility Maintenance Engineer leads the performance of mechanical/electrical and demand maintenance on all H.V.A.C. conditioning and refrigeration systems for the preservation of the ROM collections.
  • This position requires an in-depth practical and theoretical knowledge of building systems, controls and monitors to ensure the smooth operation of the site.
  • The incumbent will perform daily inspections of all related Facilities operating equipment, and make recommendations as required to replace or upgrade equipment.
  • The Facility Maintenance Engineer will perform chemical water analysis on Chilled/Condenser water and on heating systems.
  • The incumbent will ensure safe operation of all ROM equipment, provide after-hours response of building systems and be proficient with a Johnson Controls Metasys system and a Siemens Life Safety system.

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary education, preferably in the Engineering discipline, a current Stationary Engineer (3rd class) license or Building Environmental Systems Operations (BES) I &2 certificates is required
  • Five years (5) related work experience, OR an acceptable equivalent in education and experience, working in a large building complex performing supervisory duties, operational overseeing and maintenance on building, electrical heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
  • Must have an understanding of the following operational systems:
  • Fire alarm system (Siemens)
  • Computer environment and systems (J.C. Metasys Systems and Johnson Pneumatic Controls)
  • Emergency diesel generator
  • Building electrical systems
  • Fire protection systems
  • Fire safety plan
  • H.V.A.C. systems
  • Lighting automation systems
  • Energy Management and Conservation
  • Requires experience leading a team of trades to perform operational and maintenance tasks, has excellent oral/written English communication skills and fully competent in computer skills using Word Processing, Spreadsheet analysis and creation and CAD.
  • Must be fully able to read and follow blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • Must be available for weekend work.
