POSITION SUMMARY:

The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join our team as an EVC Instructor (Schad Gallery). The Schad Gallery of Biodiversity is a unique and dynamic space that showcases the ecological interdependence of plants, animals, and humans. This gallery is built on ROM's extensive collections and research. We seek a well-motivated individual who can bring their creativity to this science-related position. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and oversee the creative direction and implementation of digital projects for the Schad Gallery of Biodiversity.
  • Take charge of concept development and messaging to ensure effective communication with visitors.
  • Coordinate and manage three critical programs: Environmental Visual Communication (EVC), Life in Crisis, and ROM Biodiversity.
  • Drive audience engagement through effective program coordination and logistics.
  • Build partnerships with industry and community partners to enhance the impact of the gallery's programs.
  • Leverage social media tools and marketing strategies to increase awareness of the Schad Gallery of Biodiversity.
  • Coordinate and execute annual events that showcase the gallery's work and achievements.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or culture-related program or equivalent experience and education
  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related discipline
  • Certificate or diploma in a communications discipline (asset)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in program development and administration, preferably in an interactive learning environment or museum setting
  • One (1) year of experience training and supervising volunteers and students

Skills & Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in digital video development and implementation, including design and broadcast production
  • Strong understanding and experience with contemporary visual language and creative ideas
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for scriptwriting and editing
  • Strong interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with all staff levels
  • Proficient in current word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and InDesign (asset)
  • Working knowledge of Apple's suite of video production tools, such as FinalCut Pro, Compressor, and OSX and iOS operating systems, and Windows operating systems
  • Working operational knowledge of DSLR cameras and digital workflow, including audio and visual maintenance of publication platforms and preparation of digital AV files for playback on various display platforms, including web and mobile
  • Basic AV troubleshooting skills (asset), including computers, flat panel monitors, digital projectors, and audio systems

Other Requirements

  • Flexible work hours, including availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • French language skills (asset)

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • START DATE: May 1, 2023
  • EMPLOYEE GROUP: OPSEU Part-time Local 543
  • SALARY/HOURLY RATE: $28.67 per hour
  • SCHEDULE: 420 hours or six months (whichever comes first)
  • PROBATIONARY PERIOD:  420 hours or six (6) months (whichever comes first)
  • Note: This position will automatically renew with the successful candidate in May 2024 and again in May 2025 (Years 4 and 5 of the 5-year agreement).
